Trunk won't close

Somehow the trunk latch got in the locked position with the trunk open.
I have been messing with it off and on for a couple of days with no luck getting the latch back to its open position.
I haven't found anything yet in the forum dealing with this.
Is there some secret trick? Nothing seems broken and the vacuum works fine.
