OM60x Vacuum Pump Conversion to Late Style Rotary Pump
So I had a major vacuum pump failure on my car along with timing device destruction.
After doing some research, I found talk about conversions, but no one actually went through with it. So here I am. Parts needed for this swap: Late OM606 vacuum pump- 000-230-33-65 (I used Pierburg 7.24807.02.0) Late OM606 timing device- 605-075-02-29 Late OM606 timing cover- 602-015-01-01 Late OM606 chain/vacuum pump oil nozzle- 602-187-00-36 Oring that goes between timing cover and aforementioned oil nozzle- 606-997-15-45 I had major concerns about how this nozzle would come out, but it was rather easy once radiator and condenser were out of the way. First, a straight metal needs to placed along the flat side of the old nozzle to record the clocking. This is important as this nozzle feeds oil to the chain banana rail. I used an allen key I had on hand. ![]() After that, I used a crescent wrench against the flat spot to rotate the nozzle in the bore. This effectively breaks it loose. Once loose, I tightly gripped the old nozzle with locking pliers, and using a harbor fright slide hammer with claw on the adjustment knob, I was able to easily remove it. Here’s a comparison of old 603 nozzle and new late 606 nozzle. ![]() Here’s the new nozzle installed in the 603 block. ![]() I’ll post more once it is all together. I need to put the head on first...
