W203 automatic om603 swap. 🙏🏾 Need help 😭
Hey guys. I have had great enlightenment from this forum, thank you for your support.
I life in Africa (cameroon)I own a w203 automatic with a om611 engine and I want to replace it with om603 just laying around. From all my calculations and research online, the swap is possible. the 722.6 transmission needs the following sensor informations: - crankshaft - throttle position - acceleration pedal position - camshaft - speed sensor My big issue is, the om603 has no cam sensor, but that’s no big deal. The rexton 2.9td uses a om602 engine with thesame limitations but it comes from the factory with 722.6 transmission and it works well. I had one at the shop and discovered it has throttle position sensor on the injector pump but i haven’t figured out how to bypass the accelerator pedal sensor. Any help? I was wondering if it’s okay to connect the pedal sensor and the throttle sensor together since they do thesame job. I need to start this project soon and I want to get everything ready before I start. All contributions are welcomed 🙏🏾 |

If swapping a fully mechanical diesel such as om603 into w203 perhaps a simpler solution would be to run one of the standalone 722.6 transmission controllers such as ole. You still will need most of those inputs however it's much less likely to error out, and if it does theres plenty of internal and external diagnosis support

I question how you're going to make an inline 6 om603 fit in the w203 engine bay. I've seen an om606 and a w203 and they have to put the radiator in the back, delete the radiator support and most of the cowling in order to make room. The largest engine I've seen fit into a w203 without major surgery is an inline 5 or V8.

Unless the OM611 is dead/unrepairable why would you want to trade it for the 603? The 611 is superior in efficiency and power. I've driven in one in a S203 Europe, it was fantastic!

A replacement engine for 0m611 is expensive and are mostly fairly used from Europe and have very bad reliability over here. I am primarily going for reliability over everything. power won't help me much cuz the roads here are very bad, 160km/h is more than enough for me.

As mentioned above, and having personally owned and worked on a W203 for several years....I highly doubt fitting the 603 into the W203 is going to go very smoothly...I'd find a different smaller engine like a 602 or 601 if you want super ease of install/efficiency. I had a 601 w201 and loved it.
Also keep in mind the 603 is likely a good amount heavier than a 611
