FPHE Removal
Hi everyone,
I noticed an extra part on my 240D and after researching I learned it is a FPHE (frame plate heat exchanger). If my research is correct these are used to heat higher viscosity fuels such as vegetable oil. So far I have been running diesel fuel through my car. At this time I'm more interested in restoring the engine to it's off the assembly line condition. That means with time constraints I won't be running vegetable oil through the car. I would like to remove the FPHE but I wanted to check first and see if anyone had any comments on what effect that might have. I was also hoping that someone more experienced than myself may be able to confirm it was put in for running alternative fuels and wouldn't have been put in for another reason. Here are some pictures of the modification job that a previous owner did. They bypassed the heating water connections over to the FPHE. My plan is just to remove the tee's and purchase the original hoses. Thanks!
