Steering column lockout availability

This is on my 1983 300cd , the steering column lockout has failed as this car is well over 500k .Im not facing a no turn key , a small trick I’ve learned is to tap the the piece with a small piece of pipe as you work the key lightly up and down , I’m currently not finding any availability on new Mercedes assembles available or any on the after marketplace, anyone have this exact same issue of finding this part .

The Steering Column Lock Assembly and the Brake Booster Lines have become scarce and that was over a year ago.

The new Steering Column Lock Assembly I got years back from Mercedes was made in France by Nieman (spelling) which is part of the Valeo (spelling) company that also makes the Steering Column Locks. At one time SWAG also made them and SWAG is a good quality Company.

The locking mechanism can be disabled if you remove the lock cylinder. You can press in the locking mechanism and pin it in place, preventing the column from ever locking. I had to do this on my G. The part is basically the same as in the w123. I wrote a tutorial for doing it on the G.

On mine the part in between the Key Cylinder and the Ignition Switch broke (it narrows down to a hollow aluminum tube with indexing grooves on the end). I saw no seasonal nor essay way to fix that in part because it hat to be specifically indexed to work properly.

Thank you , knowing that once these become like hens teeth we will be rather stuck to figure out some other form of permanent measure to work around this issue . Me for right now I have acquired a good amount of yard parts , I just had to look through a lot of parts to finally discover one. In the near future I’ll be excerciseing removal of the whole column during my yard hunts . This to gather and scavange the rarity items that may cripple a rather nice car from its natural habitat of road worthiness . It’s dismantling the column in whole and figuring the best way to get the oyster from the clam so to speak .
