Floor Shifter Removal w123

I'm ready to remove my w123 floor shifter for bushing replacement, but after 44 years it's firmly stuck to the trans tunnel and I'm afraid to wrench on it too much for fear of breaking the plastic housing. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had the same situation and with success in not breaking the plastic https://19216801.onl/ https://routerlogin.uno/.

In post 8 there is pictures of where the shift lever mounts and in early posts some other thread. I don't recall there being anything plastic down there but the bushings. I thought they were aluminum.
