240D 3.0

I’d never heard of this, accidentally found it while searching for something else. This wasn’t a W123 was it?

*ETA* Further search revealed it was a W115. The headlights were not 123 but the rest of the body looked like maybe it was.

Official video. Looks pretty exciting:

When they first came out with the 617 they called in the 240D 3.0. Yes, that is a W115.

Had to be NA I would think. They're saying that it was the fastest diesel car in the world up to that point.

I believe they made a few in the 123 body too.

The one they touted as the fastest in the world I believe was the s class turbo which was introduced a few years before they did the turbo in the 123.

That would have been fast for the day I imagine, the turbo I mean.

Not sure where Pugeot fits on that scale. My dad had a Pugeot diesel, I think it was an '86 505 turbo diesel with 5 speed. The 240D 3.0 predates it of course but I'm pretty sure that Pugeot was a faster car than any NA 617, not knocking the latter, just saying.

That Pugeot was a sweet car. We did a round trip from OlyWA to San Diego together. Couldn't tell you about reliability issues. My dad was a cowboy, often didn't talk much. He'd been a diesel mechanic for several years after the war. I saw him putting in new injectors at some point.

I own and daily a 76 240d W115 (Euro) alongside a 84 300D W123 (Euro). The W115 is a much more enjoyable car to drive. The W123 is more plush and comfortable but is nowhere near as enjoyable despite being more powerful.

Wow. Never heard that. I've never even ridden in a W115.
