SD310 V SD314 nozzles
I have been researching for a couple of days but have not come up with a definitive answer. I am getting ready to replace the nozzles on my 99 606 and come up with SD310 or SD314 nozzles. What is the difference between the 2? I think the 606 originally came with the 310 nozzles, so are the 314 an upgrade of some sort? I am am trying to solve a little bit of a heavy diesel exhaust smell and a little smoking at idle. A while back I checked and adjusted the IP timing, which was off by quite a bit, and helped with the smoking. I seem to only be able to manage around 28mpg with this car and I am thinking it should be a bit higher. Anyway, if anybody can fill me in, I would appreciate it.

Seems to me....
I don't have a 606 but for that size car which is similar to my w124, you should be getting 30 mpg around town (with no ac on otherwise it drops to 26) and nearly 36 on the hwy.

Correct- the OM606 OEM was the 310s. The pintle size is 1mm smaller also.

Yea, that is what I figured, and most of my driving is highway. Most trips are at the least 50 miles, and that is just a quick trip to the store. |

What would happen with the 314 nozzles? I am not looking for more power, just my stock power with fuel economy back. The last time I did nozzles on a 606 I used Bosio 314s. I need to go back and look at my records and see what kind of mileage I was getting with that car. Right now I have been leaning toward Monark but all I can find are 314's on eBay: From the same seller I see these which say they are Monark but also say they are made in Italy, so are they Firad or Bosio (which are no longer made from what I understand): Kermatdi lists Bosio 310 for $44 each. These must be NOS or something. It is amazing how much the price of nozzles has gone up in the last couple of years. |

I would not buy Bosch because they may be Chinese made junk. Even the India made nozzles have a high fail rate out of the tube. French made are now considered NOS. If you can get German made I would or Italian made.
I haven’t received any complaints for a #314 nozzle application in an OM606 |

Looks like I am going to have to go with 314 if I want Monarch or if I want 310 it would be Bosio. Ruled out Bosch from the git go. |

Went ahead and ordered the 314 Monarks from Germany. Still trying to find out what the actual difference is between these and the 310.

Just an update on this. I balanced the new Monarch SD314 nozzles. Car runs great and the grey smoke at idle is gone, but I can't really say my mileage has improved at all. I have noticed from time to time under very heavy throttle I do get some black smoke. Not sure if its normal or not. I am considering ordering a set of the Firad 310 nozzles and replacing the 314 Monarchs. Not sure if it would make a difference or not.
