Front hub seals

Any recommendations for hub seals for a 05 e320 cdi? Just getting ready for a repack and wondering what brand others have used febi seems to be in stock at a supplier close by. The MB ones are getting costly but then again it's fairly labor intensive if the job needs to be redone.

It's been a long time since I last did my hub seals. FWIW I recall using TRW seals from Napa. It's been better than 15 years 100k miles since with no issue. Still running original bearings 310k miles and counting. I keep them adjusted when doing brakes.

Good luck

You may already know this...on my '08 E350 those seals are magnetic and are the tone rings for sensing wheel speed. There is a special procedure for installation to avoid breaking the magnet, another forum member alerted me to this. The '05 may be the same.

Good luck!!!

Napa now sell Altrum seals for $32 each but I ordered febi ones for $16 each.MB want $49 each. So I'll let you know.

Yes these seals do have the built in tone ring that's one reason I was curious.

These are the febi seals I purchased and they look correct so far. The magnets for the tone ring appear to be less than 1mm thick so I see where you have to be gentle on installion.

That tone ring looks dodgy in the last picture, check it again before install.

to pull it in - use a bearing puller or a couple of large washers and some threaded rod to gently pull the seal in - hammering/shocking the seal can break those magnets.

Ya it looks worse than it is my magnetic viewer is warped so only 1/4 of the seal can be in focus.
