Kickdown solenoid/Reverse band adjustment.

So the reverse band adjustment loosened up on my 1979 300sd with the 722.120 transmission. I also noticed that there was a small leak around the kickdown solenoid so I thought I would kill two birds with one stone. I removed the kickdown solenoid to get better access to the reverse band adjustment. I tightened up the nut on the reverse band adjustment and then re installed the kickdown solenoid with new orings and crush washer. The leak seems to have gone away, however now the car will not start off in first gear like it did before and it also flares badly. Any ideas as to what I screwed up here?
