Is Dieselish a Scam?

Bought a test pipe from the website a month ago. Got a quick email saying they were waiting on tubing but should be only a week or two. Got an email a few weeks later saying the pipe was going out 2 day priority and provided a tracking number. Now, more than a week later tracking says nothing ever shipped and multiple emails have gone unanswered. Is it chargeback time?

I wouldn't say scam. It's just one or two guys producing stuff in their garage though. So I wouldn't be surprised if they run into supply issues, especially producing things only as orders come in. I bought a catch can setup from them (not the one they currently offer, which looks better*) and it wasn't all that good of quality, just some pipes welded together with no baffling or anything. So your mileage may vary.

*Actually, just had a closer look and the catch can they're selling looks identical to ones you can get on eBay or Amazon, likely made elsewhere.

Haven't heard of that seller. If you are trying to get a Bypass Pipe to replace the Trap Oxidizer in the 1985 CA OM617.952 engine, Rollguy here fabs them and he is a stand-up guy (I've bought several parts from him). Some don't like that he insists on mailing cash (or did, USPS discourages that), but with all the scams of fake personal checks and even Cashier's Checks, I don't fault him, though money orders might still be safe.

Tracking showed up today and Jon finally emailed me back after I initated a dispute with Paypal. I totally understand having a small operation and getting backed up. Just be upfront about it is all I ask. This seems to be his modus operandi given some other forum postings about other companies he has. The package is due here this weekend so we shall see.

As for Rollguy, he may do great stuff but there's just no way I'm stuffing 100s of dollars in an envelope and hoping for the best. I asked about any other method for transfer like paypal, zelle, venmo etc. and he said that he doesn't have any form of electronic payment available to him. That's just too shady for me.

I am sure he does it to avoid taxes on his sales.
Too bad he cant just make it legitimately.
I imagine he would be far more successful if he would accept zelle or square payments and actually pay taxes on his product sales.

The quality of rollguy’s bypass pipe is excellent. His delivery was fast. I was actually stunned at the quality given the low price. Things like the finishing on the cut edges, surface treatment and weld quality is professional level. The fit was spot on with tight tolerances. The flanges were beautifully fabricated. He’s not making much on this part.

I was originally taken aback by the cash in the envelope payment system but in Rollguy’s case you’re good. I later on have met with him IRL at socal meets and he’s a stand up guy. He eliminates a lot of BS by doing business in cash. You get an awesome deal if you are willing to take some risk.

ETA- forgot to mention a big difference between Rollguy’s test pipe and the one on Dieselish is it has been bent out of a single piece of tubing. There is no weld in the middle. Technically it makes no difference. It must require fancier bending equipment to get the fit up right with two bends on a single tube.

If he is avoiding taxes, being in California, he is taking a significant gamble that *many* people have lost for decades and decades and decades: Hoping/believeing that the infamous California Franchise Tax Board never catches up to him. Among the most agressive tax authorities in the USA and second largest, they are known for coming after people and businesses many years after the fact, well beyond California's borders, and even outisde the U.S. They are relentless and employ 5,000+ at last count. If someone who reads these forums is with the FTB and so inclined...well...life can be like playing in Las Vegas.

Got the parts over the weekend. Everything looks fine so hoping for the best. Won’t have time to do this project for a while so I’ll update when done.

The quality of the welds on the inside of the pipes is pretty ugly but shouldn’t affect anything. The price seems a bit high for what you get but these days that’s like saying the sky is blue.
