Just curious

How many of us use our old diesels as a daily driver?

I'll start.....1983 300D 376,250 miles and I drive it 80 miles a day round trip to work and back.

After decades of car collecting, I'm down to just 2 total. Both diesel, so I split time evenly between my "new" 15 yr old with 165k and my "old" 36 yr old with 312k miles on it.

I use my 91 300CE converted to diesel 603 turbo diesel and my 95 E300 with a 5 speed manual transmission and a 603 engine as daily drivers both have updated heads and the mileage is over 400,000 in both

Oh yeah, every day. It’s why we tend to gravitate towards the cars that are mechanically great, but cosmetically “ok”.
So we can drive it to Target and not stress about door dings. When sorted out, they truly are a pleasure to drive, nostalgia aside.

Having been retired for many years, no driving to work for me!
We do have 4 cars. (listed below).
- My wife tends to drive the E320 most of the time (270k km)
- I usually choose the 300D (470k km), except 350SL (160k miles) on nice summer days with top down and not planning on parking anywhere for long.
- The 2019 Subaru (22k km) only gets used if one of the other cars is being worked on or we go on longer trip where when we need A/C!
(I have spent last 3 months doing various jobs, mainly bodywork, on E320 and 300D, so Subaru has had some use recently)

I drive a work truck all the time… but when not working, I split my driving between my 95 suburban diesel, and my 87 TD wagon… it’s daily available… my wife drives it a lot… her VW wagon has an ac issue, and an oil leak, and a few gremlins, so she prefers to drive my wagon around…
I won’t work on her German car… came from the wrong city!

Daily driver? Need to put it into perspective. How many miles per year and any long trips, over 1000 miles?

We drove 45000 miles per year on average in the 190D, 87 300D, CDI combined. Need to report mileage to AAA for insurance discount. Last check the cars have 318K, 414K, 330K miles respectively. At least 2 or 3 long trips ( round trip SF 1300 miles ) per year. This is what I call DD. Drive with confidence.
