1967 200d clutch issue

I don't know if there are any fintail experts on here but here's my issue. I have been having intermittent issues of the clutch sticking to the floor, and in going through everything I was adjusting the eccentric bolt connected to the clutch master piston to see if adjusting it would make any difference. Problem is it immediately caused my car to make clicking or grinding sounds under the car, and now no matter what position I turn the eccentric bolt I am hearing these sounds. I also tried backing out of the driveway and the clutch stuck to the floor in reverse and started working properly again after a large pop sound.

Some background- when I got the car the hydraulics were all out of sorts so I had a mechanic go through them all - he replaced the slave cylinder but "repaired" the master as he said he couldn't source a new one (didn't ask me).
I'm suspecting replacing the master with a fresh one would do some good, but any ideas what sounds I'm hearing and why a slight adjustment of the master piston rod eccentric bolt would bring them on?

Appreciate the insight!

I agree a new cylinder is a good idea.

So this is one of those instances where correlation ≠ causation… I figured out the grinding noise was a branch under the car
Still planning on replacing that POS master though!
