1982 300TD Vacuum Pump Install Question
Well, the time has come for me to replace my tired old vacuum pump. I've got a working spare pump in my parts car! My question is simple. Do I need to use any sort of gasket sealant when I install the new pump? I would assume so, but I know that some gaskets don't require any sealant, so I figured I would ask. Ooh, one other question. What's the torque spec for the vacuum pump mounting bolts? Thanks!

there are some very good vacuum pump rebuilders on ebay (only place I know to find these people....). I'm getting ready to install a new vacuum pump on my car; I will send the old one to a rebuilder to have it rebuilt or remanufactured.
Believe me, you want to have at least one good working condition vacuum pump sitting on the shelf for a rainy day. I would also recommend you purchase kent's how-to-do-it vacuum pump rebuild video for $7.95. You might believe your pump is in good working condition when it may not be. It could be worth the eight dollars just to be sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSmDB_R9O-Q |

Torque spec? IDK, but just an even reasonable tightening should be fine.
Sealant needed? Not absolutely needed, I'd clean it really well and use a gasket cement (not silicone) e.g. Permatex Aviation Form-a-gasket or a like product very sparingly.

IIRC the bolts are tiny.
No more than 60 INCH pounds...

Check the in and out play of your timer shaft. Too much paly can ruin a new vacuum pump and when that happens a chance of engine damage. See the attached picture in post 3. Redesigned vacuum pump for the 617?
