mercedes OM617 valve stem seal protector sleeves

OK, purchased what I thought would be a complete valve stem seal kit. When the kit arrived it did not include the plastic valve stem seal protection sleeves. The parts seller indicates they will not send me the sleeves and are asking for me to return the entire shipment. For me this is too much trouble so I am now on the hunt for an alternative.

Could I use plastic straws cut to size as valve stem seal protector sleeves during the install?

You can use anything that works. Even scotch or masking tape would work. You only need to get over the threaded aera on the valve stem.

If this is on the engine be sure the piston is up on top dead center so the valve will not just drop down inside if the cylinder.

See the pic on post 9 if you want to see what I used as an installation tool.

I know zero about your year and model.

On the W123s with the factory security setup there was a pull cable under the rear in front of left side rear seat floor mat.

More something to do in the summer. I don't know if it is possible to install and electric lock solenoid to pull the lock and pop the trunk by way of a push button switch.

Note I hooked up a pull cable on my W123 and it worked for about 2 years after which dirt and rust got into the wire coils and it stopped working. I perhaps did not spend enough on the mod. What it needed was a pull cable with an inner nylon/plastic tube so there was less fraction on the cable when it was pulled.

The used to have as in the attached picture handheld 12-volt defrosters that plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

I have no idea if someone used them on locks.

I don't live in a cold were but isn't there lock deicing sprays that you spray in through the keyhole? Perhaps the spray has something that respells water, and it does not freeze as easily after use.
