1995 E300D 3rd gear slipping

Good day.

When 3rd started slipping I checked the transmission fluid level, had to add a couple of ounces to bring it to the correct level, however, it's still slipping. All the other gears shift ok.

What would the cost of a rebuild/repair cost on my 1995 E300D transmission?

I'd budget around $1500 for rebuild.

A proper fluid/filter change may be in order. In the mean time if you wish, you might try products such as Lucas Oil Trans Fix, or CRC TransX. Both have given positive results for many. For slippage, the Lucas product might be better given its viscosity. Low cost to try and see if things improve. Rebuilds these days are closer to about $2500. Suncoast Transmissions is a highly recommended rebuilder for these units.
