W201 HVAC problem

I started a thread over on the "tech help" forum, which doesn't seem to have nearly as much traffic as this "diesel discussion", but since the gas and diesel models have essentially the same HVAC systems maybe someone here can help out. I'd rather just have one thread. Here's the link:

Any help is appreciated, and since the HVAC systems of these 80s - 90s generation models, gas or diesel are pretty much the same anyone knowledgeable on this era systems could be helpful.

It's one system on these cars that I am not very familiar with, and have never experienced any issues other than normal refrigerant service.
