Solution looking for problem
Here's something that may be a solution for someone. It's an alternator from a London taxi, '97-'02 vintage. It combines an alternator and a vacuum pump, solving two problems. Just in case anyone wants to be creative.

I'm down.
Wonder how hard it would be to fit it to a 616 or 617 engine. |

Love that this engineering belongs to a London cab… let’s combine two failure prone systems into one for maximum efficiency.

If I hadn't just done a 140A alternator swap I would totally be down to try this. I much prefer my failure-prone systems belt driven and readily removable!

70A is sufficient for any vintage Diesel. The two eared mount can be adapted to a one-lug bracket with a long bolt and a couple of spacers cut out of common pipe. The "L" terminal is the equivalent of a "D" terminal, the "S" terminal needn't be used. So the only unknown is whether there's enough backspace for the pump. |

I had my eyes on it already too. I think I mentioned it to another TD owner on Youtube, but he said many of them require oil to be hooked up to them and the install can get sort of tricky. I'd much prefer to install an alternator with vacuum pump too.
