Perhaps I'm crazy, but I am going to take the family across the country and back in my w124 (1990 300d) that I paid 800$ for.

I have put some money and lots of hours in and I think it is close to ready. Just broke the spring for tensioner, and am trying to get one, may have to get the 90$ one on eBay. Just did the water pump (Laso) and xerex g05 coolant. Removed mono wiper from a 93 in the junkyard that was in great shape, took it apart and cleaned and greased it.Mine is slow and smells like burning if you try it below freezing. All fluids except for ps have been changed. new belt, spare alternator in trunk. I will bring tools. The center bearing and bushing was replaced along with rear flex disc. Front looks good. New shock for serp belt tensioner. Shocks are all good brakes are all good with new hoses up front, and fairly new ones out back, tires are all pretty new. Electrical all works well, but no ac.

Anything else I should think about for long distance traveling with these diesels?
