What is this black box under the dash?
When I took off the dash panel under the steering column, I found this silvery "black box." What in the world is this? I thought this machine was old enough to be non-electronic!

That's your cruise control amplifier.
They can go bad due to old capacitors and it's a fairly easy fix. Jeff

Huh. The cruise control lever is dangling uselessly on the steering column, and since I really hate tearing into the steering column on anything, I've ignored it since I got the car. Who knows, it likely works if I fixed the lever.
Thanks.

Cruise stalk isn't difficult, it is external to the column. An easy to work on component.
