very odd vibration at high speed

hi I've just discovered something quite odd. When i go over 130 khm on the highway there is an odd vibration from the front of the car. It is a vibration in four succession rapid shakes lasting barely a second, which repeats itself de-de-de-de....de de de de....with not even a second in between. The moment i reduce speed a little it stops. Would be very grateful to know what the members think. THe car is a 560 sel which has a 603 diesel engine in it just for information, thanks in advance MJ in Marrakech |

Last time I was in Marrakech, the roads were pretty rough! Try rotating the tires before doing much of anything else. Hey is the Golf Palace still in operation? I supported the space shuttle missions there sitting by the pool. Even saw Gorbachov at dinner one night there with a couple of 6ft tall blonde bimbos on his arms. |

Older car, mileage, heavy, = wear and tear on a front end. Cars change behavior at different speeds and if it's starting at 130 and it is a wear item it will most likely change as the conditions change. If you are confident in the car, blast through 130 up to about 150 and see if you can drive your way out of the oscillation. Good luck. |

The fronts are easy compared to the rear. There should be videos showing how to replace both on youtube.

Could it be the flex disc?

The rear wheel bearings are no walk in the park. From what I heard, you do not attempt them unless you have spare hubs. Drive line is a good place to start of course after tires and bearings. If you pull your drive shaft, expect to find a flat spot on your U joint. Our drive shafts don't flex in use like a typical driveshaft. Everything is mounted fixed if you catch my drift. Have you looked at your center support yet? |

Could it be the flex disc cracking?

Could be the flex disc which holds the drive shaft in place. If it goes while you're driving, the entire car is toast.
