help fixing (coolant leak) and identifying fuel preheater tube on 190d (**PICS**)

05/10/2006(**PICS**)-scroll down to 4th post, thanks for reading!

Can someone please help me out.

190d 2.2 (no turbo)

I have a coolant leak that I am going to fix this weekend.

It is the metal tube that contacts the block right under the intake manifold towards the back of the engine bay.

There is also what appears to be fuel lines attached to this tube as well. The tube curves back towards the firewall around what appears to be the oil filter housing. The tube then connects to a rubber hose and clamp and then enters the firewall (to heater core I’m assuming).

So I am asking:

1) is this ‘tube’ the ‘fuel preheater’ or what is the correct terminology to refer to it.
2) How does it contact/connect to the block? Does a barb stick out/ is there a gasket? If so could someone provide me with a part number? The parts diagrams I have looked at (got screen shots from Phil) don’t have what I describe.

If anyone can provide me with how difficult it is to change the tube, and what exactly I’ll need (i.e. new gasket from tube-to-block) it would be much appreciated. Also, do I have to pull the intake manifold, or should I just remove the airbox and work underneath it.

Thanks in advance.

-Mike

Try this link. I think what you are asking about is called the "thermostat". It is #125 on the illustration. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=201128%5F15C&M=602%2E961&GA=722%2E413&L=765%2E903&CT=M&cat=502&SID=07&SGR=120&SGN=04

Good luck,
Tom

Here are the pics.

Unfortunately, underneath this tube the block is wet. However, just further down the block towards the firewall where the prechamber and block/head meet up there is wetness as well. (driver's side firewall side corner of block).

So I am hoping this is not the head gasket.

Anyhow here is the tube I am referring to, that is NOT in any of my manuals.

Any help or comments appreciated.

-Mike

Well after digging and digging through the manuals. I found a real deal picture.

'fuel preheater' was correct.

Here is the picture....now....I need the O-ring part number....and fingers crossed that IT is leaking and NOT my block/head.

If you end up needing a fuel preheater, I've got one from an 86 190d2.5 that may fit. Cheap

Can you tell me the size of the o-ring before I pull everything? My pipe is dry, it's my block that is wet, and where the preheater contacts the block.

Can you explain to me how to remove the 'lock' that holds the preheater in place?

Thanks,
-Mike
