Anyone out there in or around the Naperville, Illinois area??
My wife took our 240D to visit with some old college friends and got stranded in the middle of the night in Gary, Indiana...at a truck stop where someone was killed last night. Now she and the 240D are getting a ride with the towtruck driver the rest of the way to Naperville. At least she will be safe. It is a 4-hour drive from here, so I would like to be prepared with proper equipment/parts when I go down on Sunday. If you are around the Naperville area, and would be willing to check it out (it sounds like a fuel delivery problem...pinched line?) could you please let me know either here in this thread or by email bsmith@i2k.comtonight (Friday) or tomorrow sometime? You can also call me at 616.866.1594 Thanks! -Brian

Fuel Problem
Dieseldaddy,
Simplest things first, have her check to see that the primer pump plunger is screwed down properly. Sometimes they work loose, pop up and you don't get any fuel to the Injector Pump. Hopes that's all it is!! Ben |

More likely to be a plugged fuel filter than a pinched fuel line. Take 2 new filters along with you.
You should always carry spares in the car and teach your wife how to replace them. Its easy. P E H |

Made a new friend...
Thanks all, for the input.
We do carry filters in each car, along with coolant, water, oil and tranny fluid (not for the 240D), blankets, flashlights, etc. All I can say is, "The Bob" is AWESOME! A thousand thanks to Bob Counihan for making a 1+ hour trip to help us out!! He arrived and made my wife fell so at-ease. She said that he was so incredibly thorough, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable...and she could not believe that someone would go out of there way to help a perfect stranger like that! Bob made what could have been a really terrible experience for my wife a really good one, and for that I am extremely grateful! Hey, She now knows how to change the filters! ![]() The diagnosis? Air getting in due to a leak in the fuel lines somewhere. Bob installed new fuel line(s)and filters and checked several other areas to make sure that he had fixed the problem. We need more people like TheBob in this world. He went way out of his way to help a stranger...me...I won't forget that.

Glad to hear everything turned out okay. I'm very close to Naperville and would have been happy to lend a hand, but I don't monitor the board every day.

The Bob is 'da Man!
This is the way people are supposed to work with each other. I live in a rural community 20 miles from the nearest railroad track or four lane highway. Peoples feelings are hurt if you don't wave to them when meeting them on the lonely farm roads. For the most part what Bob did is common every day behavior in our community. Most people in the community don't know that there is a big city world out there in which this is not common. My office is in the city and I have seen the world that most Americans see, so I DON'T take it for granted as they do. In explaining this, my intention is NOT to take anything away from The Bob. The most important thing we can do with our lives, next to caring for our own families, is to help out each other. Every time you help out someone else in need, it will come back to you at one point or another. I travel alot and operate on a tight schedule often, and sometimes have to drive by when I see someone in need. It bothers me to do that, but when I have needed help it has always seemed to be there in some form. I hope Bob will accept our thanks and that he knows that when he needs something, we are here to help. Have a great day, |
