Sunday
I am so there!!!

As one of the many misplaced Texans in this world, I'll be there in spirit. Be sure to take lots of pics. If I can log on while in Boston, I'll see how the GTG went, if not I'll see when I get home.

Car Problem
I may not be able to make it tomorrow. Last night my car would'nt start. Nothing happens when I turn the key but have plenty of battery power. I'm thinking the starter. Any thoughts? Also if it is the starter, is it an easy fix? Help.

Dave,
When I have the same starter problem with the 240D I tap the side of the starter kinda hard with my trusty MB lug wrench. Never fails to work for me. Problem is my starter will NEVER fail at the shop for a diagnosis & solution to the problem. You might make sure the Battery terminals are clean and tight and that the ground strap connections are clean and tight. Hope this helps. Hope you can make it to the shindig after all. The first one was really fun. Good luck! |
Well, it appears that I'll have to bring the 300SDL instead of the 240D to the shindig. I am going to have to leave early from the shindig and stop on the way back to Houston via Tyler to pick up a friend.
I should be there around 10ish. I think that was the last time I checked that it would start. If I'm wrong let me know. Herb '82 240D '87 300SDL |
I'm going to try to be there as early as possible. I won't be home before 0100 tonight, so I set the alarm clock to 0700. I have everything prestaged to load right up and head into town. I only have one quick stop to make at the store to pick up the charcoal and mesquite wood chunks on the way in. I forgot to pick 'em up again last night.
Yes, the official "start time" is 1000. I'm lookin' forward to seeing everybody!! |
Still not working
I've tried everything. Now nothing inside the car works (windows, seats, A/C, radio, blinkers, gages etc) but the head lights work. Very confusing. Bill if you could be prepared to bring the things I was going to bring I will appreciate it. I'm still trying. Any suggestions?

rdc5000,
If the lights are working but accessories inside are not, you should start by checking fuses. You also need to check the battery cable connection to the starter and the primary starter wire. Use a voltmeter on the primary wire and get somebody to turn the switch. With the switch turned to start, you should have 12volts. Be careful, because there's always a possibility that the engine might start while you and your voltmeter leads are sprawled across the engine compartment. Also check voltage on the big lead at the starter. If you have voltage in both places, then the solenoid is the likely problem. The earlier suggestions to tap the solenoid is not what I used to do with the lug wrench. I would use the none lug bolt end of the wrench to quickly short the battery cable connection to the big bolt below that connects to the starter. If you bump this once, it will almost always start. Once it starts, you need to pick up or order a solenoid and replace it within a week or two, because it will happen again sooner or later. Hope to see you there, |
Still Trying
I've been out trying what you guys suggested but nothing yet. One problem is I'm out of light, will start again at daybreak. I will find a way of starting this thing. I just hope it's first thing in the morning.

will do
I'll try that first thing in the morning.

Ok, this is what happens now. When I turn the key to just before starting (waiting for the glo plugs) I get a moaning noise from the fuse box followed by a click and then nothing (by the way the glo plug light does not come on) and it seems everthing is straining. After that no power anywhere.

Mesquite, Texas OR Dallas
Hello
I have just posted a topic on the general discussion forum asking if there are any members of the forum living in Mesquite, Texas or Dallas. Right after posting the subject I realized the existence of your post “Head count for Texas Get Together”. Maybe I can be more explicit here; in order to get advice from any of you how might be able to help me! I’m about to make a deal with a local person in Mesquite: purchase a sports car for my son. As you can see from my posts in the forum I live out of the US CONTINENT, to be more specific HOME is in Guatemala Central America… So, you can picture the type of adventure, I’m into…Purchasing a car by seen pictures and asking questions … I’m in need of a hand… The sealer of the car would be able to take the car near by, for somebody to take a ride or check it. The fact of the mater is that, I would feel more comfortable if any of you how lives in the area can do something for me; and that is at list to see the face of the person and see the car… I don’t need expert judgments or engine gurus; I know what I’m getting in too with this car!!… I would fell more relaxed if a fellow Shopforum member take’s a look to it. I would appreciate very much your help!! Please reply to my personal e-mail: ricardo@quilsa.com Thanks, Ricardo:confused: |
If we're in town,
I'd like to come... moved to Bedford (between dallas and Ft Worth), but have zero idea of where this park is located. Friend just purchased a 99' td, so there maybe two of us. Naturally, he will beat me there....!! Michael |
