Head count

Since I know more than three or four people are going to the TX diesel shindig, I'll post this as a new thread.

I need to get a head count of all of the people that are planning on attending at the Fall TX shindig.

Place: Cedar Hill State Park, Cedar Hill TX - "Small Pavillion"
Date: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Time: Place "officially" opens at 10:00 AM. I personally plan on being there earlier to get started on setup.

I will have signs that guide people to the spot - park permitting.

So far I have Larry, TXBill, and me.

I wanna take the place over and generate the same level of curiosity, if not more so, than last spring by passers by. :D

rob_frick 09-18-2002 07:33 PM

I am planning on being there, and helping in any way I can.

Palangi 09-18-2002 11:52 PM

Looking forward to it.

mechmagcn 09-18-2002 11:59 PM

Looking forward to meeting some fellow owners. that is If I can find time to repair my 300SD by then. Major body work is not in my line of work, but I will try.

TCCBass 09-19-2002 11:07 AM

I plan on being there...in one of the cars. HOPEFULLY I will get a chance to have the 300SD detailed and photograph it and have it SOLD before then. If not...it will be a great chance to show it.

If so...I'll be there in a gas car...wishing for a diesel...

LarryBible 09-19-2002 12:06 PM

TCC Bass made me think about something. I will probably be in a gas car. I hope I don't get it keyed, or diesel fuel poured in the fuel tank!:(

Have a great day,

airfoill 09-19-2002 01:07 PM

Diesel Power,

I plan on being there and may bring a guest. I'm looking forward to the second shindig.

Also, as last year, if there is any thing that needs to be supplied, let me know. Last year I brought the some ice and the utensils, cups and plates. If you'd like I can bring those.

Yes, as airfoil says, any supplies or anything that are needed, please let me know.

Have a great day,

sflori 09-20-2002 12:05 AM

My brother (from Fort Worth) is in town this weekend for a wedding and I'll find out if he plans to attend. I'll let y'all know as soon as I find out.

aldedmon 09-20-2002 10:29 AM

500E Gang are there

Albert , CY , Randall

LarryBible 09-20-2002 11:54 AM

Looks like business is picking up. With the 500E's there, does this mean we're having a burnout competition? If so, the diesels might lose that one.

Glad you're coming,

aldedmon 09-20-2002 12:10 PM

Traction Control

Hey Larry,
You know the Diesels might actually take the 500's in an all competition on this one. That blasted traction controls is worse than a set of leg irons:( . I for one have not dropped the 10 Large for the ASR defeat and probably wont be doing so anytime soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon

LarryBible 09-20-2002 04:02 PM

aldedmon,

I will show my vast 500E ignorance here. Do you mean there is not a switch to disable the traction control system on these cars?

My C has ESP and there is a simple switch on the dash to disable it for those Sunday afternoon road races.

Looking forward to meeting you in November,

aldedmon 09-20-2002 05:11 PM

Nope

No Disconnect switch

Subman 09-22-2002 11:59 AM

I will be in Houston for the GTG. I will try my hardest to make it. I do not know the area at all but I am sure I can follow someone to the event. You can count me in.
Subman

Subman 09-22-2002 12:11 PM

I just checked and it is a 5 hr drive from houson, so I dont know if I will be able to make it for just 1 day, that would be 10 hrs on the road in one day
So dont count me for sure but I will still try to make it.
Subman

aldedmon 09-22-2002 12:39 PM

5 Hours?!?!

Oh Contrar Mon Frere...
I could probably make it from the shores of Galveston to Downtown Dallas. If you factor in a situation that includes a night marish traffic incident, then you might take 5 hours, otherwise 3.5 hours is normal(without a radar detector I might add)....4 hours if you drink a LOT of water on the way:D Sunday AM traffic 9with no rain) should be a breeze
Subman...come on Down!

Subman 09-22-2002 02:12 PM

Well Gumball Run it is then!!:D
I will let the benzsporters know about the GTG.
Lets see how many benzes we can have there.

Need Info

I would enjoy meeting other that are fanatical about their cars. Could you give me some info on the where, when ect.

rob_frick 09-22-2002 06:25 PM

Poker Run

Has anyone ever thought about doing a Poker Run ?
Might be fun, and give us some driving to do.
Just throwing it out there...

Robert

rob_frick 09-23-2002 08:58 AM

Here's a short description. 1.) You meet at the starting location (This would be Cedar Hill SP), pay a small fee for "a hand"( We don’t need to do this). 2.) Drive to at least five other locations (For a tour of the area, this could be someplace scenic or HIstorical). 3.) At each stop you draw one card. When you get to the end you have a poker hand. 5.) At the last stop turn in your hand, whoever has the best wins a prize. There's usually a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plus door prizes.
My parents are in the Lone Star Vintage Chevy Association, and they do this and other “car games” when they meet.

jcyuhn 09-23-2002 10:50 AM

Hi all - I've been on vacation for about 10 days, letting the stress drain out of my system. Glad to see the GTG coming together. Count me in - Cedar Hill is only about ~40 minutes drive down from my place in Plano. Which diesel should I bring - the '87 wagon or the '98 sedan?

I'd like to come...if ya'll let me show up in a Bimmer. I just sold my 126 and am looking for another Benz to replace it.

jcyuhn 10-03-2002 06:05 PM

Whoops. Afraid you need to take me off the list. I just learned last evening I'm going to be attending a baptism that morning. Can't really skip it; I already agreed to be a godparent. :) Well, I'll be there in spirit...

Come on over. We had a bimmer at the last shindig as well.

I too may end up benzless for this one. I'm having to overhaul the engine on the 190D. Finding parts has been an effort to say the least, and I'm trying to make sure that I at least have orderable part #'s before I pull the engine.

Yeah, that was my son's 1980 528 I showed up in last year. Is leathermang going to cook again? Are ya'll going to assign stuff to bring or should we just kick in some money?

Diesel Power 10-04-2002 10:34 PM

Cooking arrangements have not yet been finalized. I will be bringing Brats and buns, as well as both charcoal and mesquite for the grill. I like how it worked out last spring as everybody seemed to like pitching in in some fashion or another. We're definitely getting closer, so we should definitely get that list in order.

Getting into the park is going to be 5 bux a head. The pavillion is reserved. It was cheap enough that I'm not too worried about recouping that cost. If people want to donate a few bux towards that on the day of the shindig, that will be strictly up to them.

At this point, we should make up a list of who will be bringing what. We should have a volunteer for cooking. That is not my specialty at all.

Smokey 10-12-2002 11:24 PM

Is there still time to sign up for the shindig? I would probably bring my better half along!

Add to that...G-Benz and family (that makes three).

I will be 43 the day after, so I thought it would be a good way to celebrate my upcoming birthday!

My wife will accompany me reluctantly, as she has no interest listening to a bunch of guys discussing and viewing MBs all day long!:p

She also hates to drive (why did she get the SL?), so I will probably show up in the ML.

Taking my wife to this shindig will probably cost me...like having to help my wife host some cookware party or something... :o

Anyway, I'm looking forward to putting some faces with these names in the forum!

Is It TOO LATE?

New member here, Mike and Cathy from LakeHills, TX (SA area). Is it too late for us to come and meet people? We have two 240D's (74 & 79) and my 190D (85)

Mike:)

Palangi 10-27-2002 09:08 PM

STYLED STEEL WHEELS

OK, So they won't fit a Mercedes.

We have 3 pairs of steel wagon wheels, leftover from an estate sale. Might be good for a landscaping project, like alongside your driveway, etc.

1 set is 3 foot diameter, second set is 3 1/2 foot diameter, 3rd set are 3 1/2 foot doolies.

Can deliver to the TX diesel GTG. Sell for $100 a pair.

Sorry for the OT topic, but figured I could reach some Texans who know what these things are.

Looking forward to seeing Y'all at the GTG.

P.S. Also have 400 teakettles, but that's another story.

mechmagcn 10-29-2002 10:48 PM

Sorry folks, Looks like I will have to cancel. My stepdaughter has decided to get married on the 16th. Maybe next year. Jeff

No, it is not too late. Come on up, and enjoy the party.

LarryBible 11-12-2002 08:04 AM

Bill,

Don't give up on us now! This is a push, pull or drag event!

Has anyone looked at the long term weather forecast to start getting an idea what we will be faced with? I was not in favor of November from the get-go. I remember too many deer season opening days that were less than comfortable. I sure hope it works out okay.

I wonder just how inviting the weather will be for ice cream.

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm now debating whether to bring my new car or my 300E. The 300E has turned into my work car with a cracked windshield and less than pretty paint, not to mention minor finish imperfections from hitting deer and small animals. I will be kind of ashamed to let anyone see it. But, barring serious emergency, I will see everyone on Sunday.

Have a great day,

G-Benz 11-12-2002 06:14 PM

Drat! Drat! Drat!

With the rain we've had in the last few weeks, my "open" Sunday just got filled with make-up Soccer games, clinics, church practice, and other assorted rescheduled events!!!

Dissapointing for me! I will be there in spirit though! Save a virtual burger for me! ;)

airfoill 11-12-2002 10:37 PM

Isn't it coincidence that as soon as I am planning on attending the shindig the alternator on my car starts giving me trouble. Well I finally got the new rebuilt alternator on tonight. I am carrying an extra fan belt because the one that is one there now almost got shredded by another same rebuilt alternator I put on yesterday.......long story but I'll tell it to all who want to listen on Sunday.....the saga of the rebuilt alternators (now on number 3 I think in two years).

airfoill,

Don't worry, we will all have tools ready to go.

See ya' Sunday,

TCCBass 11-13-2002 01:48 PM

Count me in!!! I'm bringing Blanche. May have to leave a little early for an event back in Dallas, but I'll be there!

Bill, I will contact you to see what I need to bring!

rob_frick 11-13-2002 08:04 PM

It looks like I will not be able to drive the 300SD.
It is in the shop getting the transmission adjusted (argh!)
And I have told the shop to take their time and get it right.
It is clunking on the downshift from 2nd to 1st.
Either way, I will be in a Benz, and we are looking forward to this.
I am hoping that we have some awesome weather.
I will be going to Sam's and getting a couple cases of drinks, so if anyone wants to request any kind of soda, now’s your chance.

Robert

Confirming Address

I'd like to confirm the address of the shindig as being:

1570 W. FM 1382
Cedar Hill, TX

Just want to be sure

LarryBible 11-15-2002 07:53 AM

It seems like I remember that the entrance is off of 1382 is that correct? I expect that there will be a sign there.

See ya' Sunday, rain or shine!

rob_frick 11-15-2002 07:54 AM

It looks like we won't need to worry about not having an AC tommorow! It will be cold!

LarryBible 11-15-2002 08:12 AM

I just looked at mapquest. It looks like it's about 3.5 miles South of I 20 on the West side of 1382. This is about 4 miles from my brothers house, so if we can rained out we can just converge on him. Since he's a BMW enthusiast, I'm sure he can run us off with a shotgun as efficiently as anyone.

See ya' Sunday,

Roger 11-15-2002 04:43 PM

You all have a great time this weekend.
Wish I could make It but it's too far away for the limited time I have available (previous plans by wife) Plan to see you at the Spring Shindig.

Drive carefrully!

stvmaddox 11-15-2002 08:46 PM

You folks have fun

I just bought my first diesel - a 1982 300SD in good condition on Wednesday, Nov. 13 and I hope to bring it back to its former glory days - not that it hasn't turned a few heads already. What a car!! Been surfing the net and just found you folks - bit of short notice for me to make it on over on Sunday from Lubbock. Maybe next year - you folks have fun. :)
