This is irritating...
Thisis realling freaking irritating. Torrential downpour yesterday. Lots of rain. Passenger side footwell carpet soaked with water....any particular drains to clean or places to check this out? Why is it doing this? Windshield gasket replaced...but still wet. What the hell?

Think it could be windshield seal?
The carpets are just damp, but there is no water on the floor itself, and it is definately not a lake that needs to be bailed...it originates from the right side...I think it is the corner windshield seal leaking down and the carpet wicking the 4 inches of rain...all body drains are working and draining out of proper places...this has to be it. Incompetent windshield guys cant even put in a non leaky gasket

If they used fast setting sealant on in, it leaks as much as the one you replaced. The gasket takes several days to completely conform to the body flange, and will leak if "glued" in.
MB suggests a sealant, but that is for the window, not the body flange, to keep water out of the plastic between the two pieces of glass. Take it back and insist they fix it. No sealant on the body flange, ever, nohow. They will probably have to spring for a new gasket, too, as the old one will be ruined. If they insist on sealant, require they use the MB stuff PER INSTRUCTIONS, not just slop it on any old way. Peter

You said all body drains are working okay.
Are you talking about the body drains under the hood. There is one under each hood hinge and one on each side further inboard. One under the master cylinder and one under the battery. These are the drains that if plugged will cause water in floorboard. Good luck, |

Yes...all of the body drains work...tested
The window seal...I dont believe they used ANY sealant in the installation of the windshield...just put it into place and put the trim over it. They will fix it tommorow I believe. They said this is a common issue and they will either correct the problem with another gasket or goop up the leaking areas.

Yes, if you're speaking of all cars in the world in general, the windshield gasket is a common problem. If you're speaking specifially about the 123 MB, the underhood drains are MORE commonly the problem.
Good luck, |

Kyle:
Make sure it is an OEM gasket, not aftermarket. Most (if not all) of the aftermarket gaskets are made up of several parts glued together in the corners. Always leak, even with sealant. OEM gaskets are a single piece (or properly vulcanized together). Don't leak. Also, make sure they check under the seal for roughness or corrosion/rust where it leaks. Any deviation from smooth paint (as opposed to a smooth surface -- the spot weld dents won't cause leaks) will cause leaks. Repair if necesary by scraping, sanding, or whatever and re-painting before installation of gasket. Good luck! Peter
