Fluttering noise..odd..

Driving my 240d and getting accustomed to the distinc noises of the vehicle...the wind up and wind down of the enginer under heavy acceleration..all the neat noises...I am fine...then I shift into 4th at the 40MPH zone, and when done shifting I here this fluttering noise from the engine compartment...any thoughts or just weird diesel noises?
