Can anybody help me out with my power windows problem?

I posted on the tech forum but no replies. I really need someone that can possibly help me out with my problem. Last night when I went to start my car and roll up the windows not one of them would roll up, or down? When I press any of the buttons they all seem to be dead? there is no power going to the motors at all. I have checked all the common sense stuff like fuses, relays, ect..... and no such luck. If there is anybody that can help me trouble shoot my problem it would be very appreciated thanx

Does everything else work ? If there are other things not working that can help you figure out where you have a break in the electrical transmission.. The next most logical step is to find a wiring diagram and see where the power to all these becomes one line... if it does.... also see if they are all on a common line to ground on the other side of the circuit.... Also just change out the fuses which might be doing this..if that does not help... then get out the contiunity tester and see if power is actually getting out of the fuse box going toward the switches....
Anytime you have any electrical problems in a car it is good to go and renew all the ground connections... take the bolt off, wire brush it or sand it ( but don't use silicon carbide ...wet or dry sandpaper because the residue will encourage corrosion..)... and put them back together...

possibly diode??

Hi,
I had a problem a few months back with windows too. However the windows worked when the door was opened, have you noticed that on yours? If this is the case then it could be a diode problem. The diode is located in the relaybox (behing the fuses) under the bonnet (hood). On mine the diode was at the very rear of the box nd was in a little grey plastic holder. Pull out the holder, open it, remove the diode (diode code 1N4003, no need for mercedes parts) and solder in a new one. Try an electronic parts store or a sparky, electronicky friend for the diode.

For troubleshooting you cant beat a good wiring diagram and a half hours thought.

I know my car has a power seat diode but I'm not shure about a power window diode? Is there another relay or something I have overlooked? Because I am having the time of my life trying to figure this thing out......

ever make any progress?

I am having a similar problem with my 84, and I am thinking that it is the "ice cube relay" that also controls the window regulators.

It is a $6.00 part.

Did you try anything similar?
