Engatwork,

Interesting, Yes but:

Looks like a rust bucket. If he starts minimum bid at $400 he might get some bids.

Where are parts available?

I could imagine how slow it would be with 12 people in it. I doubt it could catch an old VW bus.

I think I will pass.

Cool van!

I have to agree with PEH, though; I don't think I'd pay $4000 for it, though...for $400, though, I'd drive out there with my truck and tow it back My girlfriend's been looking for a diesel Benz...

Unique vehicle to say the least!

Why is grill "star" upside down (depending on how you look at it) ?

Someone mentioned this in the past, but don't recall the explanation.

Typical 240D acceleration on camper van shouldnt bug anybody - What the hell are you guys gonna do.... hotrod the car fully loaded with 12 passengers?? That little diesel has plenty of torque to pull the weight - and primer paint does not a rust bucket make.

Otherwise its just a rough, bare bones van - priced competitively against fully loaded, VW pop-top camper equiped with 110 volt inverter, furniture, fridge, microwave and running water.

MB/Mog vacation vechicle sounds like great fun, probably worth $4G+ with decent paint and fully loaded with camper gear...... otherwise a van is just a van.

If the guy would take $900 - $1,200 for the vehicle "as is".... it would probably be worth calling the dude at (478)987-7598 to check it out.

Yea - primer does not make a rust bucket. I was over there not too long ago discussing biodiesel with the owner and I did not see enough rust to matter. He started it and the engine sounded good. I agree - $4k is kinda steep. It would make a really good weekend/camper type of vehicle if you have the facilities to convert it.
Does anyone want to guess - front or rear wheel drive?
Based on a reply from Eberhard not too long ago these vehicles are used all over the world.

Barndoor - you are correct - front wheel drive and one of the strangest front suspensions I have ever seen on a vehicle. It uses a SINGLE leave for the spring.

My neighbours would HATE me if I brought THAT thing home!!!

I also see TONS of potential with that rig. It would make for one hell of a conversation pice as a camper. I must agree with the others though, your friend doesn't really want to sell it with it listed at that price. If I were in a position to drag another "eyesore" (according to my neighbours anyway) home, I'd only offer him half that figure.

Alas, with seven cars at my house, and three of them inop, I just don't dare.
