hawaiian search for diesels continues
OK---Latest test drve was the nicest. 1984 300SD. Mileage...we'll get to that. German guy meets me at the McDonalds for test drive. Car was nice. No rust, shining chrome. Everything worked. All windows, sunroof, climate control, cruise, power seats. Started right up. Noticed a little smoke through rear-view when starting to drive, but went away when getting onto highway. Acceleration was worse then 300D I'm assuming because of extra weight of the 126, but seemed extra slow. Never really felt the turbo kick in. Owner says he felt it. Car pulled to the left and drivers seat leaned to the left. Owner is going back to Germany end of November, and needs to sell. He knows nothing about these cars. He has owned it since he came to Hawaii little over a year ago. He has been getting oil changes at the local shell station. Has never adjusted valves in a year and a half. Owner is third owner. Under hood looked clean no obvious oil or gas leaks. Owner is asking $5,500. I offered him 3k because thats all I have to spend. He basically said he'll take 4,000. I could scrape up another thousand, but worried about poor acceleration and mileage questions. Owner told me 112k, odometer reads 198k. Owner says dash gauges were replaced and title reflects true mileage. After test drive owner had to crank a couple of times before car started. If PPI went well ya think 4k is good?--As always all thoughts appreciated and valued, and tell me to quit posting my test drives if you're getting sick of them.
