Gorgeous 300SDL on eBay
Man the w126 is one beautiful body, especially the 300SDL Looks really nice with exception of it's idle teperature.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1872820667 What's your guess as to it's final price? I estimate $7,500. |

My goodness what a beautiful car! I love the color combination, and the leather is flawless.
In one picture of the temp gauge, it looks to me to be at about 108-110-ish, and then in another picture, it looks to be at about 105. If the car was idleing for a long time, and it was a W124 300E/E320/400E/E420, this would be expected. I have no idea what temperature a diesel would be expected to run at if left idleing for an extended period of time. This car looks so clean, I would guess that it would go in the $9,500-$10,000 range.

A couple interior trim pieces missing, notably the hinge cover for the driver's side seat back/seat bottom joint. That piece is laying on the rear seat in two of three rear seat pics. Also noted that the heater is seat to MAX, possibly in an effort to cool the engine a little better, too bad the ACC is off .
Looks nice, but why such a high temp?

It could be that he parked it for the exterior photos then started it soon after for the dash photos.
It could also be that the cylinder head has cracks. My temp would shoot to the limit in short order with the cracked cylinder head. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

The seats sure look better than on our car. Makes me wonder what the PO did differently to our car than to this one.
Also that brake fluid looks pretty dark. On the coolant temp, I could let our car idle all day long with the a/c on in 100 deg heat and it would only get to 90 c. Makes me wonder?

I have a feeling the leather seats have been re-upholstered. I know I could leave mine idling all day in 100F degree temperatures and my temp guage would stay at ~90c

Notice my temperature, it was about 85F that day. |

I think those seats have been re-upholstered....also makes me wonder about the paint originality......a 15 year old car in Texas(especially without tinted windows) would show more fade/sun wear...and the paint looks almost too printine to be original on a car with that many miles.....as fo the selling price I say $6500-7000 max

Turbodiesel
Thats a nice looking car you have there. That gray on gray looks the same as ours. Thanks for posting those pics of your interior, mine looks about the same. It's hard for me to believe that the car on ebay has an original interior.
That car thats on ebay looks excellent but at least I know mine is in excellent mech. condition.

My original 260K interior is at least as nice as the eBay one EXCEPT for a 4" tear in the passenger seat. My dash wood is cloudier than the eBay car but my console wood is in better shape. I don't know how long my car was in California but it's spent time in Arizona.
Hats off to turbodiesel -- my interior is palomino so it hides dirt better than cream. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

If you'd look closely too, you can see that this 300SDL has the power REAR seats as well as front! Now THAT is a nice feature, one I have not seen many with.

well I am 99% sure that is a repaint...the wheels are in worse condition that the paint...also I don't think that interior is original
interesting that the reserve has not been met....I wonder what it is? I still don;t think the car should fetch more than about $6500 Warren 1992 300SD 151K Columbus Ohio |

With the temp gauge at 105 or higher, I guarantee that it either needs a radiator and/or a fan clutch, both of which are notorious problems on the 1986/87 six-cylinder diesels. It could be the t-stat or low coolant level but we're assuming that "basic" maintenance has been done on such a nice car. It should never cross ~100C even in blistering temps.
Mine, with new rad/clutch/etc, rarely if ever go above 95C except under serious load (climbing a steep grade, hot ambient temps, AC on max.) Before my new rad/clutch/etc it would be 105-115 on a regular basis. Everyone, including the dealer, claimed this was "normal" a long as it never touched 120C. What a load of crap... now I know better! Regards, |
