Help!
Ive been reading threads yet I'm still confused.
My ACC problem: All push-button settings are identical except with defrost I only get heat. With all settings I get air up windshield vent and out side vents only. Switching dial to heat gives me heat. Still up window and side vents only. NO AC----Compressor works according to Enrique. The green vaccum line is disconnected and golf tee is inserted in connector. Green line does not hold vaccum once accesories are on. How do I fix this ? 1984 300D California Version

Stuff ain't switching like it should. You are going to have to start doing some troubleshooting. Do you have your "mighty vac" yet? Do you have a schematic yet? I would start by removing the pushbutton unit to access the control solenoids located behind it. Put the mighty vac on the lines coming from the solenoid going to the vacuum actuators one at a time and see which ones hold vacuum and which ones don't. This will tell you which actuators need repairing. Repair them as the test dictates. Hopefully, you can repair the ones that you can get to without having to pull the dash (although dash removal/installation ain't really that bad on these cars). You are going to want to pull the glove box and the drivers side right kick panel. This will allow you to access all of the actuators EXCEPT the center vent actuators. You are also going to have to "test" the solenoids. You will want to power them up with 12 v to see if they switch or not. If they do not then you will need to replace the bad ones. After you have done all this you can then confirm if the pushbutton unit is working or not by putting it all back together (everything under there working) and see if you are getting the switching you are supposed to. Push the middle button on the unit and move the temp wheel back and forth (cold to hot) and see if air comes out of the various vents based on if you are on the hot or cold setting. Cold should only blow out of the dash vents. Center button mashed in hot setting should shut off the center vents and blow out the side and floor vents. Come back with more questions as necessary.
Worse case you may have to eventually replace your pushbutton unit. I say worse case because it is pretty expensive.

Send me a private message with your fax number and I'll fax you a great diagnostic bulletin I received from Larry Bible. It'll help you narrow down the issues and find the fix.
JCD PS, you may not LIKE the fix, but this bulletin will help you diagnose it. |

Thank-you guys.
JCD---Unfortunately I don't have access to a fax machine. Engatwork----Yes I have a mityvac. I'll try doing what you suggested. I think I was just hoping to not have to remove the dash, but I never get anything out of the center vents, so it looks like that's what's going to have to happen. For the next year or so all I need is ac. Wish I had the no heat problem. Anyone want to trade? ![]()
