300SD Door Strike

I have a 82 300SD with a drivers door that will not close properly (will not shut tightly). The nylon piece in the door strike is obviously worn out. Is it possible to buy this nylon piece seperatly or do I have to buy the complete door strike assembly? I considered swapping the strike from the rear door but it is also in bad shape.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Nobody has had this problem with a 126? A search didn't turn up much.

The striker plate is available. I bleive the plate also sits on a little plastic "pad". I suggest replacing it along with the plate as they tend to get brittle with age and are not very expensive.

I have started to use a light dab of silicone lube paste such as Sili-Glyde on the inside of the door latch mechanisms with good results on our cars.

If you decide to replace the stirker plate, please be sure to make sure:

1. The allen is fully inserted DEEPLY into the allen heads, double-check to avoid rounding-out the allend head.

2. That the allen you are using is crisp and not rounded.

3. Use a pencil to mark the original location of the striker plate before replacing it, helping to attain the correct location for the new one.

When the stirker plate is removed, it is a good idea to check the overall fit of your door to the door frame. It should fit quite closely. If not you will have to adjust it.

BTW, the striker plate is a very important and key element to the safety of your car. They were designed very specifically to not only resist door burst on impact but also to anchor the door to the door frame.

Hope this helps,

Haasman
