tranny leak
My tranny leaks when I let the car idle for a little bit. I don't let my car idle nowadays but I'm curious why this happens. Is there a leak in the front seal or torque convertor. Please advice. Thanks.

Is this the infamous B2 piston seal leak?

Can you elaborate on the infamous B2 piston seal leak? Tom |

The band 2 piston (B2 piston) is the actuator for the low/reverse band (I think, I'm not all that familiar with MB tranny guts, may be the second gear band instead). The servo is external, and the seal between the servo cover and the case leaks -- it's not very wide. Causes the tranny to leak fluid when that gear is engaged only, since there is no pressure when it isn't. The piston can also sieze or fracture, leading to funny 2nd gear shift problems.
Repair only older cars can be done in place, on newer cars there usually isn't enough room and the tranny has to come out. Peter
