Axle spacers

Is there a place that one can order different thicknesses of axle spacers? I'm replacing both axles in my 85 300CD turbo. The old axles both have 1mm thick spacers where the axle goes into the differential. The new axles need about .5mm thick spacers. There's too much play without the spacers. I've called my local Mercedes dealer, which is actually the Honda dealer here, and the parts guy said he could only order stock parts. Reading other threads I've learned the manufacturer put in the required thickness spacer when installing the original axle and this can vary from side to side as well as from vehicle to vehicle. I'm assuming there must be a supply of spacers for the shops that put in new axles in the field.

Try contacting the sponsor of this site. They are quite knowlegeable about mercedes parts. It makes sense that there are many thicknesses.

I ordered spacers from the MB/VW dealership and they had no problem ordering the sizes I needed. Once he understood the part I was talking about he said they could order any size in 0.1mm increments. Unfortunately I don't think I have the MB part# handy, because I assume that would help.

PM fruitcakesa for more info- I believe he just took his to a Machine Shop where they just layed in on a Magnetic Chuck an surface ground it. But, you need to be sure of the size you want it ground to.

I did a quick look up this site shows spacer sizes (item #119). However, to be sure I would start at the very bottom site and look up you car to be sure!

Thanks for the links Deisel911, but my Russian's not too good. I did notice the schematic only shows thicknesses down to .7mm as Cook said in thread

Axle spacers - Too much play will cause..?

when he checked with his dealer.

I will try what Cook did with his spacers to make them fit the axle. I haven't checked to see if there is a roundness issue as his had, but expect that to be the case as the axles I bought are FEQ brand (going for cheap). If that does not work I'll try my dealer in person with the old spacer to show what I mean. Although if they can't get less than the .7mm it does me no good. We'll see.

Thanks to you all for the info.

This machining problem seems to be an ongoing issue with the cheap Chinese axles (I had the same problem with my GSP axles from AA). Even if you can get the circlip on there, it seems like trouble if the spacers are not sitting flush with the axle.
