I've got a W123. I purchased a new seal(trying to fix a trunk full of water). New seal leaks badly too=0). There was some greyish material around the bottom of the rear window opening. I think it's a tail tail sign that the factory installation used something similar to 3M "strip caulk".
I spend an hour last night digging around in W123.130 EPC and found this "$1.2 /meter A001 987 56 46 Sealing cord, Paint run off hole in Rear window opening". It was in a stray area of electrical- so I have no idea if this will help or is where it's installed. I've done them before- and of course it's my car that leaks. I could do this or just let the glass guy goo it in place. Michael

My '80 W123 also leaks water into the trunk, RS only..
I found nothing at all wrong with the seal, so I simply set the latch one shim tighter and I will see- next spring.

Michael, do you mean the rear window seal ??
I'll soon change the oil(way o'erdue) - using synthetic Rotella 5 -40 ?. It is far too cold to do anything with water other than bathing in nice hot aqua.

Yep -the rear window seal.
Just trying to figure out if the that stuff is strip caulk. Maybe I'll go by the dealer-they are nice but don't seem to know all this stuff. If I'm luck, they will stock it and I can make a visual assessment. Michael

Usually you can use some sealant to temporarily fix a leaking rear windshield seal. Don't forgot to take a look at the tail light gaskets too, another potential source of leakage.
