81 300d Cv Joints

I AM TRYING TO REPLACE THE CV JOINT BOOT COVERS ON MY
81 300 D AND WE HAVE HIT A SNAG. WE HAVE REMOVED BOTH AXLES FROM THE CAR AND UNCLAMPED THE BOOTS, HOWEVER
WE CAN FIND NO POSSIBLE WAY TO REMOVE EITHER OF THE CANISTERS WHICH HOUSE THE ACTUAL CV JOINTS AND FLUID FROM THE AXLE SHAFT ITSELF. WE WERE TOLD THERE IS A C CLIP INSIDE THIS CANISTER HOUSING BUT WE CAN'T GET THE CANISTER TO BUDGE. IT APPEARS TO BE PRESSED ON AT THE END OF THE SHAFT NEAREST THE SPLINES. IF WE CAN REMOVE ONE OF THESE CANISTERS THE BOOTS WILL SLIDE OFF AND WE WOULD BE ABLE TO INSTALL NEW BOOTS AND THE CAR IS OFF AND RUNNING AGAIN. !!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP WITH A PICTURE OR
A PHONE # OR ANY INFORMATION. CAN'T AFFORD THE BIG BOYS SHOP PRICES MUST PERFORM WORK MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS
SHANNON

Shannon - the reason you are not getting any response is that most people on here just replace the 1/2 shafts with rebuilt ones. If you are really strapped for cash you could possibly find some good 1/2 shafts at a Pull A Parts type of place.

Turn your CAPS OFF.
