300D Transmission 80 to 84

Title is a bit odd...

Question is: is it possible without too much hassle to put a tranny from a 1980 300D (Turbo) into a 1984 300D (Turbo), or should I stop even thinking that way?

My 84 tranny seems to need a fair amount of work, and I could get the tranny from an 80 for about 150.....

Tnx

Kris

I didn't think there was an 80 300D turbo.

Actually, I believe you are correct, and in writing, I messed up....

So, the donor would be a 80 300D, with the tranny transplanted to a 84 300 D Turbo....

Any ideas....

You may have to swap the neutral switch/ backup light, that is easy.
Check to see if they both have the same speedo setup, some years have mechanical cables and some have an electrical system in place.
They are the same basic trans and will swap, but I don't know if you could change the electric pickup from one trans to another that has a mechanical cable. I think it is possible though.
Keep track of the transmission mounts, they can be slightly different, as can be the starters. The early versions used an arm instead of a bowden cable. Don't think that can be changed over, but you could swap the trans linkage all the way up to the engine if you have that.
