Adjusting the trans modulator?
Okay guys, easy question here. I have done the research and I know I want to adjust the vacuum modulator to firm up my shifts just a bit. The question is what direction do I turn it and how far approximately? Its real cold outside so save me some experimentation time please?? Thanks, RT

To firm up turn clockwise.
How much to turn??? Well, put on some real warm clothes cause you're gonna hafta do it a little at a time. Make adjustments in small increments because a little goes a long way here. There are notches that the "T" sit in spaced around the center nut so each notch is about 1/6 turn. I go one notch at a time, then test drive. Repeat until you have it where you want it.

vacuum or Bowden cable controls/
If this the vacuum version of the shift control then you might want to start at the vacuum line coming off the valve cover. if you have too high a vacuum or the bleeder on top of the Ip is not bleeding off enough vacuum at full or half throttle then you will have flaring also. I tightened up my modulator (really helped) only to realize that I'm pulling 20 at the vacuum valve and then only dropping off to about 8 at full throttle. it should really be about 0 at full throttle so I have too much vacuum.
You can adjust the range of vacuum I am told also by changing the main connector off the vacuum source to reduce the initial vacuum load thereby shortening the vacuum range (theoretically tightening up the shift range). if this is not vacuum controlled then I think I just did a lot of typing for nothing and sorry to have butt in... ![]()

I get 10 in/hg at idle and down to zero when I rev the engine on the trans vacuum line. That seems right, will have to tweak the modulator. Thanks, RT

yep, sounds good to me. I had such bad flaring and this car was abused for the last ten years or so such taht I had to run my modulator about 8 settings before it got good enough to drive.
Mike is right too about the adjustments. keep your jack handy and just take it one notch at a time. Drive it then pull it ina nd adjust again. Took me about 1.5 hours to finally get it decent.
