Well, I figured out how to crop/downsize my picture. I have several to do, here is the first one. Thanks for the input, sometime's all you have to do is walk away from it for a while and come back and everything will fall into place...

And finally, the engine compartment. Don't worry about the color of the coolant, it is Dex-Cool coolant which is orange-brown in color, not rusty water like it looks

Nice Car!! Same year as my dads 300D and my coupe. The woodgrain appears to be in impeccable shape. How many miles does your car have? You live pretty close to where I live, maybe we should think about having a North Central Florida GTG sometime. My family has 4 MB diesels that'll be included.

It is an 1985 with 131,000 miles on it. I purchased it in October of 2002 with 122,000 in it. Other than an occasilnally tempermental climate control pusbutton unit, I have had no problems with it, just routine maintenance. I am going to do motor mounts and driveshaft service (flex discs, bearing, etc.) soon. It is getting to that mileage point, and the pass side motor mount is starting to collapse. Doesn't burn any oil, started up fine during this freezing spell (with and without block heater), drives like a dream. Can't ask for much more!!

Wow! You've put about 9K miles on your car in 3 months. I got my 85 CD in late Oct. '02 and I've only put 3,700 miles on mine. I only use the car for mostly in town errands and to go back and forth to school in. The only time it has a long run is when I take it to my mechanics in South Georgia which is about 200 miles one way. They're great and honest mechanics so I know it's worth the long drive. I love the 123 series, they have such classic lines that makes it hard for me to keep my eyes off one everytime I pass one.

Enjoy your Benz!!

Nice car, just like my 82! Same exact color. Blue interior works well with the white!

Nice looking car. I too have the blue interior, but with a grey/blue exterior. I agree with Daimler300CD, the 123 series is totally classic and I too admire each and every one that I meet on the road or a parking lot.

BTW, Jihal your coolant level is a little low. You might want to look into that.

Thank you everyone for the compliments, I drive from Brooksville to Tampa every day for work (about 95 miles round trip). I am looking for something closer to home, but the job market isn't exactly hot right now. I had a '79 300 D before this one. A guy ran a stop sign and I hit him in my right front. The car sacrificed itself so I could walk away from that accident without a scratch That was a sad day. It was in my family since new, had just turned 200,000 miles. I took the money the insurance paid me for it, saved for a while, and with some help, bought this one. By the way, thanks, dieseladdict for noticing the coolant level. I noticed it while taking the picture and topped it off with 50/50 coolant and water afterwards.

What would the world be without these nice W123s around!! I really get excited whenever I see a nice one down the road. Just as much as I get excited when I see a Ferrari (seriously)

Too bad I don't see too many nice ones up here (I guess most just die of rot)

Nice cars jhal and 123c.

clean engine too! I wish my engine compartment was that clean. Cleaned it once and busted an alternator! now I'm paranoid (I know that i've learnt but still)

123c,
Now I kinda want to use those wheel covers for my W123. However I have yet to see Anthracite 123's w/ wheel covers..

You can always get the wheel covers unpainted, and get the painted. Also, I am sure you can find them painted in Anthracite, but it might take a while.

My bundt wheels are pretty beat up, and I like the way the wheel covers look also. I seem to only see them on the 240's. I'm on the lookout fot the anthracite wheel covers too now I think. If you find some let me know how much Holson.

Hey JAHL!

I was wondering, if you don't mind telling me, since I also drive a '79. What was the insurance pay off on a totaled '79 123?

I have recently avoided two direct attempts on the life of mine. Both of these were women in almost new cars, so I figure, hey they must have insurance, so maybe next time I don't swerve quite as hard?

insurance payout

Hey, I think I did pretty good on the insurance pay-out considering that the car needed quite some work. The a/c servo was leaking, the York compressor shaft seal had leaked almost all of the R-12 out, the sunroof motor gearbox was bad, and the bottom of the doors was starting to rust. But, it ran like a bat out of hell, and never left me stranded, even when one of the glow plugs went out. I just bypassed it (temporarily) and was on my way. I am starting to write a book...I got $1800 for it from Allstate Insurance, which is what the guy had who hit me. He was in a '93 Ford Explorer, and got ticketed for the accident.
