Break-in oil
Last time I rebuilt an engine the CW was use 30W non-detergent. This is my first rebuild of a MB engine. Those of you who have done it, what do you recommend as a good oil to use for break-in? I plan on only running a few hundred miles before changing oil and filter and will probably run a good conventional oil or possibly conventional/synthetic blend with changes at 3K. Thanks!

I would hold off for about 30,000 miles before using a Synthetic just to be certain everything that is going to break in has sone so.
I have never run anything special, but then I don't have a lot of experience in this area either.

We used to give it about 5k miles, but I heard somewhere that since the factories are filling with synthetic right off the bat, to break in with cheap dino at initial start/cam break-in, then at 200 miles, then 500 miles, then @ 1k miles go with synth.
Did this in the Jeep (bal/blueprinted 360, EFI, cammed, etc.) and @ about 6k miles from build, it still feels like it's breaking the rings in. Oh well.
