transmission not shifting to 4th

my transmission started acting up again.. it was not shifting to 4th...
and i got mad and got out and disconnected the vaccumm host to the transmission form the modulator control vavle on top of the fuel pump and it started working fine... just shifting early..

Sounds like the transmission is getting too much vacuum. This caused the transmission to slip on my '80 300SD and I had to replace the trans.

This could be a bad vacuum valve (valve on IP) or the tri-connector hooked up wrong. The end of the tri-connector with the restriction in it must be connected to the vacuum source.

I would have thought that without any vacuum, shifts would be very late!
Perhaps you did something else, rather than removing vacuum to the tranny. It really sounds like you have FULL VACUUM now.
