Saw a nice 300SDL today..

I love this color. I always have a habit of looking in and checking out the odometer and was shocked..

Sure don't look it! I think it's an original owner car, too as it still has the old style NJ blue colored plates.. they havn't had them since the late 80's.

hehehe nice!

I really would love to own a diesel with 300k+ mi. on it - in good condition that is. Just to show people how these things last and still look good

Is that car for sale? What did it look like overall?
Is it blue or black? I'm curious about a car with that many miles...

The car was not for sale that I knew of, it was at a German car repair shop. It looked excellent.. I found only one tiny bubble of rust. The interior was also great for the mileage. It is dark blue.. a great color on this car, IMO.

The car beside it looks just like mine! I have the same Ascot Gray interior as the blue one and makes for a great tone on tone combination. Was the dark Gray an option for the 300 SDL?

I actually like the fact that it is high mileage. The one I bought to restore shows 216,000 miles. When I had a carfax run, it showed that the odometer had been rolled back 100,000 miles. (I knew this before I bought the car)

When I restore the car, I am going to put the odometer back up to 316,000 miles.

I agree; there's something about a car with super high miles that is in really good shape. Not that I wouldn't mind finding a low mile beauty as well, but it doesn't have the same "CARMA"!

Someone here once commented on how dieselers are the only people who want to roll their odometers AHEAD-as a badge of pride!!

I wouldn't worry too much about buying a car like the one above, would you?

When I run into someone that's interested about my car, the first question is usually "what year is it?"
When I tell them it's a 1980 they are always suprised and when I tell 'em it's sneaking up on 400k it's generally astonishment that a car with this may miles can still look this good.
It's a hoot.
