Question Hazard switch may be on the fritz

Hello! I've noticed a couple times that when I hit the switch for the 4-way hazards to come on, nothing happens. If the instrument lights are on, the light in the hazard switch goes out completely, and they don't flash. If I turn them off and back on, they usually work normally.

My guess is that the switch's dirty...any thoughts on that, or what else it may be? I remember hearing that the switch is easy to take apart and clean; is it a straightforward process, or what?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this has been the case each time I've had trouble with this switch. It comes apart for cleaning quite well.

Good luck,

I've had the same experience. The location on the console makes it very susceptable to getting dirt inside and breaking if you put heavy objects there (or in my case my kids feet as they try to crawl out the sunroof). When the switch has problems it causes all sorts of strange things to happen to the directionals.

Thanks!

However, upon getting it apart, I found that it's broken. One of the ears that comes down from the red part (the part that you actually switch) was broken off, and I think this is affecting something, as I cleaned it up, put it back together, put it back in the car, and the hazards aren't coming on at all now.

Looks like time to order another one... At least I can take this opportunity to clean the other switches and properly re-mount the center wood...

Thanks!

That's exactly where mine broke. I was never able to get it to work again either, even after lots of fiddling.

Makes sense...I get the distinct impression that the last owners of this car didn't love it; the seats are pretty trashed as well (however, other than the seats, once all the dirt's cleaned off the interior it'll look pretty good)...and the guy I bought it from did have small kids (in fact, some of the kids' toys were left in the back seat of the car when I bought it; unfortuantely, I didn't realize this until I was in Arizona)...

Well, looks like $17 from Fastlane...I may have to find something else to buy as well, though, to help justify the shipping.

{on edit} Wound up ordering the switch, along with a new coolant expansion tank cap and a fuel tank cap gasket (two things that I've been needing anyways ). Should be here on Friday
