How much dirty looking is engine oil from an engine after 3000 miles.

Dear friends,

If you have 2 cars (one is diesel and the other is gasoline) which
are subject to similiar driving conditions, how much difference in texture and appearance is the engine oil drained from each of these 2 cars (e.g. after driving for about 3000 miles)? Is it true that the engine oil drained from the diesel car looks like black mud while the one from the gasoline car will look dark brownish?

Thank you very much for your info.

Eric

The diesel oil will be black, and it usally turns black right after you change it. The important thing to do with a diesel is to change the oil every 3,000 miles, and use a diesel rated oil. You can go maybe 6,000 miles if you use a synthetic oil.

Eric,

Diesel engine oil will look as black after 5 min as 5000 miles. That's OK, Diesels are like that.

Or you can use Diesel rated synthetic oil and change it every 5000 to 10,000 miles depending on the type of driving you do.
