watch out, that 91 350SDL on eBay has the bad 3.5L engine that bends rods... if the cylinders are still OK, you can replace the old weak rods with new improved ones (~$1500 in parts) and it will be fine. Or drive it until it tears up the walls and install a rebuilt crate motor for $6k. :) :)

EDGE...
yes, edge, there is an Ebay santa. I got my 85 300sd on ebay and it is a gem. bought it from a partime MD dealer for $4800. It will hit 108 mph, had brand new seats and makes the Cape Cod / OHIO trip a joy, though it doesn't hold the trip record.
I did the 796 mile trip in 10 hours, 48 mins in my 81 300TD last week. ((and that was with 3 stops)) I bought the wagon on Ebay also, but its not now, the car I bought then for $305. It now has a junkyard motor from a 85 SD and a rebuilt tranny and absolutely stunned me this winter the way it handles the snow. It's going on Ebay in a few days..Divorce forces sale, ya know. Only the Rolling Stones withstand death, taxes and divorce. YCAGWYW, ya know. |
seafood54...but if ya try sometimes, ya get watcha need!
Is that an annual trip for you? Where on the Cape? |
EDGE...
you figured it out...
my plate only says CAGWYW because there are only 6 places available. no..not an annual trip...for 6 months, last year, I was doing one week in OH and one on the Cape, which meant doing the 800 miles once a week. As the time for the move draws nearer, it will happen again, though it will happen shuttling vans there, dragging MB's behind them. BTW...CAGWYW on the SD is a message to my Not-Yet-Ex-wife. ............Can't tell you the joy that car has given me. ............Not by my short and curlies, sweetheart. RS, soundtrack of my life |
looks like the auction ended at $7100... if we can believe it
maybe the 'winner' will need a few xtra dollars for some speedy dry to soak up the oil leaks:eek: if the guy's feedback is anything to go by:rolleyes: |
so who wants to be the one to contact the "winner" - more like loser, in this case - and give them the URL to this thread? Hmmm? Any takers? Might save the person the trouble of traveling long distances to look at a steaming POS.

First contact was with Howie and we setup the payment for my credit card… $2500.00(car) + $180.00(paperwork) + $50.00(credit card charge) total $2730.00 11-27-02 --PM Called to confirm that my credit card charge went through and talked to Michael. He said that they were Having problems with their credit card machine and that he would call me back when it went through. Mike never called me back…. I waited at work an extra hour for the call and then called Micheal Back… At that time he stated, “Oh, that went through hours ago, and that the paperwork for the Title will be sent out”…… (This was the first sign. I started to record everything.) 11-28-02 to 12-02… I checked my credit card account and seen that the charge was on my credit card but it was Only for $2680.00.I waited patiently for the paperwork, diligently checking the mailbox and being disappointed Every day that it did not arrive…. 12-02-02 - 7:29 AM I sent an E-mail to turbo_fifty informing them that I had not received the paperwork on the Car and received no response. 12-03-02 - 6:45 AM Re-sent the same e-mail as the day before….. 12-03-02 - 7:04 AM Received an e-mail from turbo_fifty with phone numbers asking me to call them.. 12-03-02 10:10 AM I called them and did get in contact with Michael. I told Michael that I had not received the paperwork yet and Michael went to get his uncle Howie. Michael came back and told me that Howie would call me Back in five minutes. I said OK.. No one ever called back.. (At this time I activated the free limited warranty or I would lose the coverage) 12-04-02 9:15 AM Called Turbo_fifty again to try to find out why I haven’t received the paperwork and why nobody was Returning my calls. Talked to Howie and he told me that my credit card payment was frozen. He then Told me that their credit card machine was not working so they went next door to put the charge on E. Penn Auto Repairs credit card machine. This apparently caused my funds to be frozen. (This was the First I had heard of this since I was told the charge went thru on 11-27). (7 days) Howie and I discussed the Situation I was told that they had tried everything to release my money but couldn’t get it released. Howie Then gave me all the information concerning where my funds were tied up and asked If I would contact The company to free up my money. I had plenty of info and started to make phone calls but when I was asked what my name was and told PNC merchant Services who I was, they abruptly stated that they could not do anything for me since this was not my account we were discussing and hung up on me. After this, I again contacted Howie and he told me that if I wanted I could cancel the deal or wire Them the money because they would not release the car without it being paid for.. I agreed to Wire them the money. 12-04-02 10:30 AM The secretary called me and gave me the information for their bank to wire the money. I then contacted My credit union and wired the money off to C & R Auto Solutions bank. Also at this time I filed a dispute Over the $2680.00 on my credit card….. (Gee, I have paid 2 times to try to get this deal going.) 12-5-02 Got home from work to find the paper work in my mailbox for the car and signed off on it when I realized that it had some different letters in the VIN… 12-06-02 08:30 AM Called Howie and got the answering machine and left a message about the VIN being wrong. 12-06-02 10:45 Called Howie again since I had not gotten a response to my message. I discussed the situation With the secretary and she found Howie. Howie concluded all I had to do is change the VIN to the proper one and initial it and he would do the same when he received it. I agreed and sent the paperwork back.. From 12-06 to 12-17 I dealt with the transporters.. (This is not on Howie). First time the transporters tried to pick up the car it would have been after C&R was closed and they were told that they do not do after hours pickups. Then Ice storms and delays etc, etc, etc, 12-17-02 7:30 to 9:00 PM The car was delivered and the balance of the shipping was paid.. During unloading since the car Was on the upper tier the driver let me inspect the underneath of the car… The engine compartment back to the catalytic converter was bathed in oil. So much so that the transporter climbed up on his truck to inspect the roof of his cab.. it also had fresh oil all over it, the transporter was not happy about it.. 12-18-02 4:00 PM Managed to get the vehicle in my garage and start to look the car over after work. Here is what I found on my initial inspection: Bald Tires(steel belts sticking out), broken gas cap, smashed hub cap, heater blower not working, broken License plate bracket, leather drivers seat either vinyl stained or painted over, moisture in the oil filler Cap, almost every gasket on the engine leaking oil,(head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, Intake manifold gaskets), windshield wipers ripped andtorn, missing interior components and brakes that needed to be pumped up to work… 12-19-02 08:30 PM Called Howie and talked to him.. Explained all these problems and the fact that it was evident That there was major work done on this vehicle since under the hood some items had not been reassembled Properly and tightened down, the engine compartment and fenders were full of greasy handprints and Howie said he knew nothing about It in a nice way and then gave me the phone number to Red Cap Motors to call and discuss this with Paul Jr. He also said that the heater blower motor fix was on him and to have it fixed and fax him the bill and try to do it economically. 12-20-02 8:20 AM Called Red Cap Motors and asked to talk to Paul Jr, He got on the line and were shortly thereafter Cut-off. I called back and the secretary answered and she said that Paul Jr. was unavailable and I Discussed the condition of the car with her. (She was the only one so far that sounded sincere when She said that she was very concerned about it and she would call Howie and Michael and would Have one of them call me back.. 12-20-02 PM Since I had not received a call from Howie or Michael I decided to call Red Cap motors again And try to talk to Paul Jr. He was not in so I was transferred to Paul Sr. After our discussion Paul Sr. stated that these problems were something that Howie and Michael should handle and that they will take Care of it. At this point I realized that neither Co. was checking these cars before they sell them. .....cont'd |

12-20 to 12-26
I purchase a blower motor for the vehicle and install it myself. At this time I found that The blower motor speed selector had one speed that did not function and that the rear window Defroster only had 5 of the 13 defroster lines that worked. I also changed the oil and detailed the engine compartment to try to clean up all the oil. I then had 4 new tires put on, (there was no hubcap tool in the trunk so we have to use a hammer and chisel to get the mounting screws to release and then remove the hubcaps). The mechanic says that the tires should never been on a car because the wear bars are worn off and the steel belts were sticking out of the tires. I then ask the mechanic at the station to look at the oil leaks. He says that there was an awful lot of oil under the car and that it was leaking way to much And we should change out the oil sending unit to start eliminating leaks. Also the oil was leaking for so long and so much that it had ruined one of the rubber pieces on a motor mount and that should be replaced. We cleaned the oily areas, tightened the oil pan and transmission pan bolts and then set up an appointment to change the oil sending unit. During this period of time is when I discovered that the car was leaking ½ quart of oil per tank of gas… It is everywhere! 12-26-02 09:42 AM Sent an E-mail letting Turbo_fifty know that I had fixed the blower motor and also informed them of all the other findings. I expressed the fact that I thought that this had now regressed from a decent deal to me feeling like a victim of a bad deal.. I then requested them to contact me and see if we could work things out to make this a square deal for both parties. I received absolutely no response to my e-mails regarding these questions.. 12-30-02 9:00AM Called Turbo_fifty and got the fax number from the secretary to fax the bill for the new blower. I then faxed the copy of the bill to them… I called back and was told by the secretary that it came in and she would give it to Howie. 12-30 to 01-07 Waiting for a check from Howie……… 01-07-03 2:30PM Sent an e-mail to Turbo_fifty inquiring about the repayment of the blower motor and The other questions I had on the condition of the car requesting them to please call me. No response… 01-08-03 7:30 AM Sent another e-mail to Turbo_fifty asking for a response from them. No response 01-09-03 7:30 AM Re-sent previous e-mail again… 01-09-03 10:00 AM Received an e-mail from Turbo_fifty telling me to call Howie or Michael between 9 and 5 for info. 01-09-03 1:40PM I called and finally got in touch with Micheal and discussed with him the repayment of the blower motor repair and he said he would look for the fax and talk to Howie about it and would call me right back.. 01-09-03 2:20PM Michael called me back and said that he would handle the check and that he would send it out ASAP. 01-09 to 01- 13 I waited and received the check for the blower motor 13 days after faxing the bill. 01-13 03 09:00 AM I sent Howie and Michael a e-mail detailing the existing problems with this car again, asking them To please take 10 minutes of their time and look at the situation.. I also added the promise to their customers from the web page to help encourage them to do the right thing and respond. 01-13-03 11:17 AM I receive an e-mail telling me to call Howie or Michael 01-13-04 1:30 PM I called and talked to Michael and asked if he had received my e-mail on the existing problems with the Car. He stated that he did and that he printed it out, it was sitting on his desk and Howie and He were going to discuss it. 01-15-03 07:55 AM Received this e-mail from turbo_fifty.. 1. Vehicles sold for $2500.00 or less are sold AS-IS. 2. Vehicles over 10 years (1993 and older) are sold AS-IS. 3. Vehicles with over 125,000 miles are sold AS-IS. After this I sent one more e-mail appealing to them to at least repair the Rear window defroster and Then faxed them 3 quotes on the repair… They simply re-sent the same previous e-mail.. Since there was only 2 days left of the 60 allotted by Ebay to file a fraud complaint I went ahead And did that… I also left negative feedback… Out of all this contact, they made 2 phone calls. That was the entire effort on their part after they were paid… It took a month to get the first payment credited back to my credit card. I also am planning on filing a complaint with the PA consumer Protection, the Wi. Consumer Protection and the Federal internet fraud consumer protedtion… I will be filing these complaints against Turbo_fifty and Red Cap Motors where the car Came from… If you want the links to the sites to file these types of complaints I will e-mail them to you.. I shoulda known better than to buy a vehicle from someone who threatens you with bad Feedback on the car site page… Turbo_fiftys feedback policy . Any feedback given to us will be returned in like kind If you are trying to build your ebay feedback rating, you are guaranteed to receive what you get.. Don’t get me wrong… I like the way the car handles, drives, rides and looks. I just don’t Like being lied to and screwed with all the other problems they did not disclose and covered up with the wonderful description of the vehicle. I call it Fraud and so do many others, or they wouldn't have made laws about it. Its 3 months since I bought this car and I have changed the valve cover gaskets, serviced the transmission and installed the new oil sending unit... The engine is still leaking oil very badly... I have put over $700.00 dollars into this car since I bought it.. 02-19-03 Also as of today my credit card provider has told me that the return charge on my credit card is still being held and E.Penn auto won't release it back.. (This has been finally taken care of) My last discussion with them they claimed all the problems with the car must've happened between the time the transporter picked it up and delivered it. Ya Right! (4-22-03) I have also replaced the transmission pan, oil pan and valve cover gaskets and the oil sending unit and the car still is leaking oil really bad.. The mechanic says that next to do are the main head gaskets and the gaskets on the block for a mere $600 - $800 depending on what he finds when he's got the engine apart. Here's the web page I put together for them.. http://www.geocities.com/scalig/turbo_shifty.html 04-30-03 As of today I am still dripping oil all over and have found out since it has gotten warmer that the air doesn't work.... Well it finally went full circle last nite on my way home from band practice... Thunderstorms, lightening and pouring rain.. 1 Mile from home.... The engine hatched.... Need an engine now Oh Boy.... Yaaaaaaaa. I wouldn't buy the last candy bar on the planet from these guys.... <I feel for this guy and suggested that maybe he should sell that car and get a Mercedes 300D and join this board to get help on maintaining the car....edge> |
holy smokes edge - what a nightmare story...
i think i'm gonna keep my car for awhile... if that's what happens to people. |
Why do people take pictures of cars in the shade? They must be tyring to hide something.
I'm refering to the 350 from Richmond Va. on Ebay. |
