Hey-

I am a friend of peyton300TD- last time I spoke to him, he was heading to the carribean for the summer, to teach sailing after finishing grad school, then would be back to US in the fall, at which point he is going to fix his TD- hope he doesn't mind my filling in his details, but that, in a nutshell, is where he's been...

Cheers,

JAS

Well, after two months the saga is about to end. I took the forum's advice and educated myself as to my rights under the law. It was an education. Basically, Allstate hopes that you accept the first offer and be glad that you did. On the other hand, if you know what to say and what you are entitled to, they have the money.

The initial offer was $3,200. After I wrote a very long letter quoting the law and giving examples of what it would take to replace the car, I received an offer of $4,485 plus expenses. Not bad. I think at this point I have pushed hard enough and will take the offer.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement to push Allstate. I will never have them as my insurance company. If you need more proof, go to alstateinsurancesucks.com. It is unbelievable!!

Kweimer. do you have any fog light lenses for my 76 300D? I don't want to pay 50 bucks each for them. Sounds like you may be a good parts scource as I work toward restoring this thing. I just aquired it. I'm glad they are so tough.

My 89 190E got hit in the front. $7,000 damage. Had to negotiate with the insurance company to repair as they wanted to total it. But since I had kept it in immaculate condition, they sent someone to perform an evaluation on it and decided to repair it. The body shop spent three weeks doing the work, used all new parts and the fit and finish is something to behold. It is in better shape than before, as the plastic around lights were faded and chipped and the grille was faded. Now new.

Since I am not in the parts selling business I do not have a "price list". I will not charge you $50 for fog light lenses. You tell me what you want to pay and we will probably have a deal.

I probably have over a dozen complete fog light sets; however, only four or five lens only---and I have noted that the lens are two slightly different diameters---so you will have to let me know the exact diameter of the lens you need and I will see if I have a matching pair.

that hood and that fender both had blemishes and were the worst parts of the car cosmetically. now, the car will be almost immaculate on the outside.

Good having the history linked here.
Slipped my mind that others may not know "the rest of the story". Oops, dated myself again..
I was actually asking how he is doing, and current MB's..

I seem to recall reading that Peyton moved offshore somewhere (Hawaii maybe) to become a marine biologist.

I would just like to add something to this thread (didn't own a MB back when this thread was started) Anyway, if it helps someone searching for advise on what to do in the event of an accident, here is my $0.02

If the car is declared a total loss, be cautious it does not get branded as such. Might never be able to put it on the road again, even if you just had to change the fender.

Also, have the car appraised, factoring in the pre-collision condition, and fight the insurance with that. There are a lot of appraisers that will overlook minor items and appraise your car high. If they can't find comparable cars in your area to base the price off of, they may have to use the appraisal.
