Little red brake light
 

What the hell is this light for? The E brake? Because when the E brake is off and I am driving, the stupid litte red light comes on, goes off, blinks etc when I hit different holes and protrusions. What is this light for? I assume it's not saying I am low on brake fluid..

There are various sensors, low fluid, thin brake pad, and of course the E brake. Low fluid is easy to check, the sensor can be bypassed if neccesary, the wires going to the pads, and the switch on the brake can be checked

It could be low on brake fluid. The brake lining light is the one with the solid circle surrounded by dash marks, next to the alternator light, presuming a W123 chassis car.

try this. lift on the emergency break pedal and see if it goes away. in my car the pedal didn't come up enough to hit the switch to make it go off, and every time i hit a pot hole it will flicker, give it a try.

added some DOT 3 brake fluid, it went away. I was slightly low.

You may have fixed the sympton and not the problem. The reason why the brake fluid is down is because the brake pads are wearing. As the pads wear. the calipers squeeze closer drawing down the brake fluid. Hence, the warning light starts to trigger on-off. Next chance you get, check your brake pads. Don't ask me how I know this!

Edge, we replaced the back break pads about 3-4 four months ago, and had the rotors taken down. The front ones, we never changed. Maybe this could be it?

Could have a leak somewhere also. Might be a good idea to look at calipers and hoses. Also look at where the master cylinder attaches to the booster. If its wet, or the paint's missing, the master cylinder may be leaking. Take a look at the clutch slave cylinder also.

Kyle, the front ones wear much faster than the rear. MB cars's stopping power is in the front brakes, hence all the brake dust. It's worth checking.
