Question ACC Blower ? 81 300D

The blower fan control has the fast/auto/slow positions all in one vertical switch on the far right of the ACC controls.

Do the fast and slow switches manually override the auto control which, I guess, is temperature sensitive? My blower does not switch on when I push these buttons. Should it?

The blower never comes on in the auto position either.

The fuse checks OK.

Thanks,

Has it ever worked? Sounds to me like you may have a problem with the pushbutton unit or the fan itself. It is time to start doing some troubleshooting. The first thing I would do would be to remove the passenger side kickpanel and see if you are getting any power to the fan or put 12 vdc to it and see if it blows. The low/hi should come on obviously at the low/hi setting. The auto selection will automatically speed up/slow down the fan based on the temperature settings.

It does not work at all? The blower comes on in my 81 300D after several minutes. I leave it in the auto setting. It cycles on and off per the temp setting. Does it work with the compressor off (EC)? When I first got the car I thought the blower and/or system was bad. After a few months I’ve learned to work with it and just let it do it’s thing. Sometimes I put the fan on high to “jump start” the system, it’s a sort of override, I guess. I hope this helps a little bit.

Jim, the fan worked in the winter with the heater. I bought the car last fall so this is the first spring/summer with it. I can stick my finger into the two outer vents and feel cool air but none blows out and the two center vents do not cool off. If the fan blower is supposed to come on with the hi/lo switch the I agree there is a problem with power to the blower motor. Is there a relay that might have gone bad?

jdc,
In the winter, I wasn't getting heat. Couldn't figure out the problem until I found out about the Monovalve on this forum. My daughter drives the car so I have very little day to day experience. But I went through all the control options, including EC and still no fan. I'll let y'all know what happens.

I went to the thread on blower motors. When I tapped the motor, the blower came on. I removed the blower assembly, as described on the thread. Then I went to ACE Hardware and bought the closest matched brushes and filed them down to fit the slot. After soldering the wires, I replaced the blower and she's blowing cold and hard. Thanks to all on the thread for all of the help. The fix cost $6.00.

ACE is the place. Way to go and thanks for the follow-up.
