Waterpump question?
I noticed that there is a small hole on the top of my waterpump housing. I am wondering if this is for lubricating the waterpump bearing? The other possibility is that someone put the outer housing on upside down and it is supposed to the a weep hole like other waterpumps have.
Any ideas? If oiling the bearing will prolong the life of the pump, I am all for it.

Maybe it's a weephole where you can actually see it. A weephole at the bottom doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. But I'm not an expert in such things.

I think that is designed for people who actually look at their engines regularly.. it will leak there before the water pump seal totally gives way.....

That small hole on the top of a waterpump housing is actually a weep hole (pee hole :-). Any worn water pump bearing will cause coolant to leak through this hole.
On older cars like W123/126 etc., the weep hole is on the top of a water pump while it's at the bottom on newer models (like C or E class). Eric |

I actually believe this has been the topic of past discussion and the water pump is built with a weep hole in the top and the bottom. The water will leak out the bottom unless that hole is clogged. Jim
